INDIVIDUAL SERVICE PROJECT

        ISP How-to

1. Pick a project

  • You may work in a group of up to four people. The project must require at least four hours per person. Your project should benefit the community. It should require you to take a leadership role it is not just volunteering. Examples: cleaning up a community park, planting a community garden, holding a book drive for a charity. Non examples: cleaning out a neighbor's garage, taking care of an individual's lawn.

2. Submit your proposal

  • The form is available on the website and is due March 2nd at 11:59 pm. Fill it out and submit it to the Schoology page. Note: you MUST have your ISP approved by your contact person PRIOR to submitting the proposal. Do not assume that the project you have in mind will work out without talking to the individual and/or organization that it is supposed to benefit.

3. Complete your ISP

  • Be sure to take pictures. You must submit a hard copy of FOUR to EIGHT pictures. However, you should take more. If we do not feel like the submitted pictures are representative of your efforts, we will ask for digital copies of more pictures. The 4 to 8 pictures should "tell the story" of your ISP. For example, if you planted a garden, you should include a before picture, a picture of you gathering supplies, some "action shots" of members working, and an after picture. Be sure all group members appear in the pictures. You may print off pictures onto printer paper (they may be black and white but should be clear) or have them developed at CVS or somewhere like that.

4. Complete your ISP final report and have your contact person complete their portion

  • These forms are also on the website. If your contact does not speak English, please have him or she write it out in their own language and also submits a written interpretation.

5. Put together your ISP folder

  • You will turn in your ISP in an attachment.

  • Contents will be as follows:

    • A copy of your proposal form.

    • A copy of your ISP final report (your portion)

    • A copy of your ISP final report (your contact's portion)

    • Physical copies of four to eight pictures telling the story of your ISP. These should be bound into the folder, so glue them to a piece of paper if necessary.

    • Other supporting documents (ex: a copy of the sign you put up to publicize a book drive, a copy of the letter you wrote to a local business requesting donations, etc.

  • On all the documents, please type when possible, and print neatly otherwise.

6. Turn in your ISP

  • You may turn the ISP in at any regular NHS meeting. Your proposal is due at 11:59 on May 4th. However, you may submit it early.
